Welcome to UDL Basics for Instructors & Designers!

What to expect:

This course introduces instructors and instructional designers to the core principles and practical application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Participants will learn how to identify barriers to learning, apply UDL guidelines, and design more inclusive and flexible learning experiences.

 

By the end of the course, learners will be able to evaluate their own courses, implement UDL strategies, and redesign instructional materials to better support diverse student needs. The overall objective is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to improve equity, accessibility, and the effectiveness of their online learning environments.

 

Learners will progress through the five steps of this course, described and linked below.​

The total estimated time for this course is approximately 90 minutes.

Step 1

The introduction contains basic information about UDL Principles that you'll use throughout the exercises, and in your final reflection for the course. (30 MINS)

Watering Garden Plants

Step 2

In Exercise 1 you will use a given student profile to help design a course for that student using UDL principles. (20 MINS)

Gardener Tending Plants

Step 3

Exercise 2 will provide you with a course outline in which, you will identify ways to improve the course using the UDL principles you have learned. (20 MINS)

Step 4

In the Final Reflection, you will connect what you have learned about UDL through the information provided and exercises you’ve completed, and apply it to your real-life work. (20 MINS)
